Detailed Itinerary

The journey, in full

Your first stop on this guided city tour of Budapest is in the Castle District for a short walk to see the area’s main attractions. You’ll visit the Castle District area, the perfect spot for enjoying spectacular views of the surrounding area. Begin your tour near the Parliament, the world’s third largest Parliament building, then take the Margaret Bridge to drive over to the Buda side. We stop in the Castle District and during a short walk we show you the main attractions of the area. Afterward, we take you over the Elisabeth Bridge to Pest and show you the famous Central Market Hall and the largest Synagogue in Europe, afterward we drive to the City Park. We pass by the famous Széchenyi Thermal Bath, the Budapest Zoo, then stop at the Heroes' Square (with statues of the most famous Hungarian kings and dukes). We take the Andrássy Avenue back to downtown Pest while passing by the Opera House and St Stephen's Basilica. During the tour, we offer a brief overview of the last 1000 years of Hungarian history. After the 3-hour city tour, we take a 1-hour long river cruise on the Danube to see the sites of Budapest from a different perspective. During the boat tour, you can refresh yourself with a glass of drink (choice of champagne, wine, beer, soft drinks, mineral water) and enjoy the commentary of the audio guide (available in 30 languages). Tour ends at the pier/city center.

I also wanted to add that the person I asked questions of before booking did an outstanding job of getting me the information I needed before booking tour. I needed to know where the city tour would end and the cruise begin so I could figure out ahead of time if it was doable in the time frame. Knowing there was 1 1/2 hours in between so we could get lunch was very helpful. Also let us know that it was walkable from one point to another - which again positively impacted our decision to book this excursion.

Our guide, Barbie, was excellent and gave us a great understanding of history and significant places. There were 2 Spanish speaking people who did not show up. If they had, she would have had to repeat everything in Spanish…. Which would not have been as enjoyable or informative. I would not recommend doing that as it would have decrease our rating significantly.
