1 Day Lake Atitlán Road Ride
What your day looks like
This day trip to the Lake starts and ends in Antigua to accommodate those of you with tight schedules where your trips might have to take a lesser priority to language school or volunteer work. This half-day mountain bike ride is technical and extreme enough to satisfy even the most accomplished riders.
The experience, in brief
- Drop 2000 vertical feet on Guatemala’s best Single track
- Or choose a back country cruiser road
- Swim in our secret swim hole, or dive from the cliffs
- See the wonders of Atitlan away from Gringotenango
- High atop panoramic cliffside trail
The journey, in full
Meet at the Shop at 8:00 am where you can purchase any riding gear, and fill up your water bottles. After making sure everyone has everything they need, we load bags and bodies into our vehicle and set out. It is about a two-and-a-half hour drive to Panajachel. We stop on the road for a coffee or bathroom break at a nice road stop restaurant near Tecpán (breakfast is not included). Upon arrival, we will unload and fit you to your mountain bikes. We will give instructions on how to ride, how to do it safely and you will have a chance to ask questions and apply sunscreen. From here, a fast country road traverses the high tableland above the Lake, mostly downhill, and brings you through small villages and the town of Godinez before rounding the last rolling ridgeline and joining the road to Panajachel. At the first vista directly overlooking Lake Atitlán, we will stop and prepare a picnic lunch (included) and orientate you to the towns and geographic features of the lake. After lunch, it is a quick and winding downhill to the town of Panajachel. You will have time to recover with a swim or explore Calle Santander in search of souvenirs while your guide loads the bikes. After you have had your fill of Panajachel, you will board the transport and head back to Antigua arriving around sunset.
