Sachsenhausen was the model. Opened in 1936 as the prototype for every concentration camp that followed, it housed the SS Inspectorate that planned and ran them all — Auschwitz, Dachau, Buchenwald, Ravensbrück. Most tours walk past that building. We start there. **More Than a Memorial Visit: Half-day tours of Sachsenhausen are common. You'll stand at Station Z — the execution trench, the gas chamber, the crematorium. You'll see the Soviet special camp memorial and hear the post-1945 story almost no other tour tells. **There Is No Right Way to Feel Here:** Some visitors are moved. Some are angry.
