Day 1
Banjul
Welcome to Gambia! Your journey begins with an early departure from your hotel, heading directly to the ferry terminal in Banjul for the crossing to Barra. Situated on the North Bank of The Gambia, Barra serves as the gateway for your route to Georgetown.

Local Flavor at Barra, Gambia. Barra: Our journey begins with a visit to Fort Bullen in Barra, the first anti-slavery fort ever built. You’ll explore the fort with a knowledgeable guide who will provide a detailed history of its significance. After the visit, we’ll make a coffee stop before continuing our journey to Farafenni.

Local Flavor. Lumo: As we continue, we’ll stop at Farafenni Market (Lumo), a bustling spot where you can find a variety of local carvings, food, and clothing. The journey also takes you through several picturesque villages, offering unique and spectacular views along the way.

Sightseeing. Wassu Stone Circles: We’ll make a stop at the Wassu Stone Circles, where we’ll explain the history and significance of these ancient stones, believed to have been discovered around 100 BC. The site’s discoveries date back as far as 750 AD, adding to its fascinating historical context.

Boating at Gambia River. Gambia River: We’ll then head to Kuntaur for a 4-hour boat trip along the River Gambia, where you can enjoy lunch while cruising through the mangrove swamps, with the chance to spot hippos, monkeys, and crocodiles. Next, we’ll arrive at Jang Jang Burreh Camp for the night. This traditional African-style camp, surrounded by lush vegetation and located on the banks of Mac Carthy Island, offers a unique experience. After relaxing and having dinner, enjoy folkloric music performed by local villagers, showcasing various traditional dances for ceremonies like naming, marriage, and circumcision.

Day 2

Eco Tour. Jang Jang Burreh Camp: The following day, wake up early and take a stroll around the camp for bird watching and animal spotting. You’ll have the chance to see green velvet monkeys, who often approach guests for feeding.

Local Flavor at Janjanbureh. Janjanbureh: After breakfast, we depart the camp and make a stop to visit the village of Georgetown, locally known as Jang Jang Burreh. Jang Jang Burreh (Georgetown) was named after a brother and sister who discovered the island. It also serves as the administrative center for the central river division, housing both the office and residence of the commissioner.
