Arrival & Welcome You will arrive at Lilja’s welcoming home, where you’ll be greeted warmly and introduced to traditional Faroese hospitality. As you settle in, you’ll learn about life in her coastal village and the importance of seafood in local cuisine. Cooking Demonstration You’ll watch Lilja prepare fresh local fish for the oven, learning how Faroese families season and cook seafood to enhance its natural flavors. She will also show you how to make a traditional Faroese sauce and a homemade dessert using regional ingredients. Spices, Techniques & Traditions As you cook, you’ll discover how preservation methods, seasonal ingredients, and maritime traditions shape Faroese food culture. You’ll gain insight into everyday cooking techniques used in island homes. Three-Course Faroese Dinner You will sit down together to enjoy a three-course meal paired with wine, savoring freshly prepared fish and homemade specialties. Over dinner, you’ll hear stories about Faroese traditions, village life, and the islands’ deep connection to the sea. Thursday – Leirvík Village Walk & Heimablídni Meal Guided Village Walk You will explore the charming village of Leirvík with a knowledgeable local guide, discovering Viking-era remains and learning how the settlement developed over centuries. Along the way, you’ll see traditional Faroese houses and gain insight into daily island life. History & Culture Insights You’ll hear stories about the Faroe Islands’ seafaring heritage, community traditions, and how residents adapt to the dramatic North Atlantic environment. The walk offers close-up views of village landmarks and coastal scenery. Heimablídni Dining Experience After your walk, you’ll be welcomed into Lilja’s home for a traditional Heimablídni experience featuring homemade fish soup served with fresh bread and butter. You’ll enjoy a glass of wine, followed by coffee or tea and dessert, while connecting with your hosts in a relaxed, family-style setting. Note: You may share the experience with a few additional guests, creating a warm and convivial atmosphere — and you might also meet the family cat, Simba.
