The Lower Omo River in southwest Ethiopia is home to eight different tribes whose population is about 200,000. Visiting the communities of the Omo Valley is a privilege. Each of the tribes in this region has a unique culture and way of life. Almost all of the tribes differ in language, clothing, food, and traditions. Omo Valley Tours offers unique local-led tribal and ethnic visits, exclusively exploring the Omo region in the south of Ethiopia. We will assist you in discovering the most ethnically diverse cultures, customs, and ceremonial events, including the most isolated areas of the Omo Valley. Your day, step by step
Day 1
Addis Ababa
Welcome jinka! Fly from Addis Ababa to Jinka: In the morning take a flight to Jinka on arrival you will drive to Turmi home of the Hamer people The Hamer, or Hamar, is an Omotic community inhabiting southwestern Ethiopia.

Cultural Immersion at Turmi Market Town. The Hamer: They inhabit the territory east of the Omo River and have villages in Turmi and Dimeka. The 2007 national census reported 46,532 people in this ethnic group, of whom 957 were urban inhabitants. They are known for their practice of body adornment and wearing a multitude of colorful beads. Women adorn their necks with heavy polished iron jewelry. The Hamer men have a reputation of being less than adoring husbands. The women submit to the ritual floggings proudly and love to show the deep scars that are regarded as proof of devotion to their husbands. on the way visit Bana village.

Day 2
Addis Ababa
Local Flavor at Omorate. Turmi to Omorate: In the morning, excursion to visit the Dassanech Ethnic group (70 km, one way), famous for their nomad lifestyle and very interesting decoration and scarification on their bodies. There are also great views of the Omo River when crossing it in a dugout canoe. Turmi is well known for its traditional events and with some luck you will even participate in a Hamer marriage ceremony, with its bull jumping ceremony and more! The afternoon excursion may be canceled if there is a bull jumping ceremony as it is so worthy looking. Late afternoon drive to Jinka for overnight stay.

Local Flavor at Mago National Park. The Mursi people: In the morning drive to Mursi Village crossing Mago National Park. The Mursi people who are known for their lower lip and earlobe plates.
