What your day looks like
Hampton Court Palace Upon arrival at Hampton Court Palace, guests will now receive a warm welcome and introduction from a guide in period costume. A royal palace in the borough of Richmond upon the Thames, Hampton Court Palace was built in 1515 by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, favorite advisor to King Henry VIII. Once the most powerful man in the English court, second only to the King, Cardinal Wolsey fell out of favor with Henry after he failed to negotiate an annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon so he could marry his latest obsession, Anne Boleyn. After Wolsey’s death in 1530, Henry VIII took charge of Hampton Court, turning it into a hotel, a theatre, and a huge private playground, using it to demonstrate his enormous wealth. When William III and Mary II (1689 – 1702) took the throne in 1689, they commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to build an elegant new Baroque Palace. Queen Victoria opened the palace to the public in 1838, and it has remained one of England’s most beloved historic attractions. Wander through the vast kitchens where cooks would have worked day and night to bring Henry his poached dolphin and roasted swan, and head out to the beautiful gardens and see if you can escape the oldest surviving maze in the world. Windsor Castle The preferred weekend residence of our current Queen Elizabeth I, Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Also a favorite castle of Henry VIII, the place is now his tomb along with Queen Victoria, the Queen Mother, and many more royals. Wander through the stunning State Apartments and take a look at St George’s Chapel, where Harry and Meghan married. Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House is a must-see, with hot and cold running water, electricity and tiny items made by 1,500 of the finest craftspeople of the 20th century. Keep an eye out for rare works of art on the walls from geniuses like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.

Windsor Castle and Hampton Court are a must see. Our coach was clean and comfortable. The pace of the tour was good and our tour guide was great! She had a wonderful personality and extensive knowledge of the history and culture of the area made for a great experience.

Great guide provided us with all the info we needed to get the most out of this excursion. The snack bag wasn’t great. I think we’d have done better to have gotten our own lunch at Windsor.

Eileen was an amazing tour guide! She brings the history to life. We became friends. Windsor is such an elegant place - interesting to see where the current Royals were living Hampton Court is fascinating, the workers and volunteers there dress in the period clothes of Henry VIII.

Windsor Castle and Hampton Court are must sees. However, this excursion could have been better. We arrived at Hampton Court and our tour guide gave the group a personal tour of 2 of the rooms. Unfortunately, it dragged on so long, we did not have enough time to cover the remainder with the Hampton Court Audio tour. We would have been better off just using that instead. Our departure time did not allow it. The second stop was Windsor Castle. Our tour guide brought us to the entry of the main castle and dropped us off, as tour guides are not allowed to do tours inside. We found ourselves inside, without the headsets for the Audio tour. We had to go through the entire castle, exit, make our way back to the main entrance to get the audio devices. The tour guide should have had us pick them up when we walked past it initially. This wasted about 40 minutes of our time. We then had to leave, again, based on the tour's time constraints. The tour says 9 hours and 30 minutes, but we arrived back in London 2 and half hours early. This was time that should have been spent at both locations. Will advise friends to not do this tour, but to instead take an Uber to each of the locations and pay the general entry fee.
