The journey, in full

A Stroll Through Royal and Literary London Your journey begins in the heart of Piccadilly, where your guide will unravel the history of the magnificent buildings that define this iconic area. They will also share a fascinating secret that most guidebooks get wrong about the famous statue mistakenly called 'Eros'. We then pause to admire Burlington House, the grand home of the Royal Academy of Arts and several prestigious royal societies. Discover its origins as a palatial private residence for the Earl of Burlington and the surprising story behind one of the Royal Society of Chemistry's most famous honorary members. No tour for the curious mind is complete without a visit to Hatchards, the oldest bookshop in the UK. Since 1797, this hallowed haven has served literary giants like Oscar Wilde and Lord Byron, and continues to supply books to the royal household. Though our time is brief, step inside this bibliophile's paradise to soak in the atmosphere of creaking wooden floors and shelves lined with beautifully bound volumes. Next, we experience the essence of British elegance at the legendary Fortnum & Mason. Famous for its royal warrants and exceptional food hall, this iconic store has a history of treating every visitor like royalty. It’s a sensory delight of artisanal delicacies and timeless tradition. Our path then leads us through the elegant streets of St. James's. We'll pause at the childhood home of Sir Winston Churchill, where your guide will share stories of his profound connection to London. We then uncover one of London's secret passages before entering the tranquil greenery of Green Park, learning the intriguing story behind its name as we walk towards Buckingham Palace. As we stroll down St. James's Street, your guide will point out the unique, time-honoured establishments that have served royalty and prime ministers for centuries—from a legendary tobacconist and a world-famous hatter to a right royal liquor store. We then arrive at St. James's Palace, the most senior royal palace in London. Originally built by Henry VIII, it now plays a crucial constitutional role and is the formal setting for the planning of royal coronations and funerals. Walking up the grand avenue of The Mall, your guide will reveal the history behind its famous name and its role as the backdrop for national celebrations. Keep an eye out for interesting local wildlife and even film crews who frequently use this spectacular location. The tour culminates at the world-famous Buckingham Palace, the official London residence of the monarch since the reign of Queen Victoria. Here, depending on the day and season, you may witness the spectacle of the Changing of the Guard ceremony. We then journey down Whitehall, the administrative centre of the UK government. Along the way, we’ll see historic government buildings, statues of famous leaders, and moving memorials dedicated to the sacrifices of two world wars. Our tour concludes at Parliament Square, surrounded by statues of influential global figures. Your guide will illuminate the significance of the square and the breathtaking historic buildings that frame it, including the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey.
