What your day looks like

When Highclere Castle is closed, this tour is the next best thing! Combining the best Downton Abbey and Cotswolds sights, including the villages of Bampton, Asthall, and the market town of Burford, the tour offers the best of both worlds. Starting from your central London accommodation (if you would like to be picked up elsewhere please contact us) our driver/guide will whisk you to the heart of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds where they will show you around some of the most picturesque villages in the whole of England. Along the way, you will uncover the unique history of these beautiful towns and villages, and learn how they were used in the hit TV series Downton Abbey. We will visit Cogges Manor Farm Sometimes simply known as Cogges, the filming location for Downton Abbey’s Yew Tree Farm. Hear behind-the-scenes secrets, and even meet some of the animals that call the farm home! Asthall, the childhood home of the famous, and infamous, Mitford sisters. Learn how one became a Duchess, another a leading Novelist, one a communist, and another a leading fascist figure! Enjoy Lunch at the beautiful Swan Inn a stunning country pub, which offers excellent grub! It's so good you might even spot former Prime Minister David Cameron there from time to time! Burford A stunning medieval village which is regularly voted one of the best places to visit in the Cotswolds. Bampton The village has been welcoming thousands of visitors into its hearts since the start of the hit TV series Downton Abbey. Here your guide will reveal how the village was transformed to look like it did in the early 20th century, and how they managed to keep the locals so happy over the 6 years of filming that they allowed them to come back for a film!

Detailed Itinerary

The journey, in full

Cogges Manor Farm Step into the real-life Yew Tree Farm from Downton Abbey, home to Mr. Drew in the beloved TV series. Explore the charming farmhouse, meet the animals (including the famous yellow and black pigs), and hear behind-the-scenes stories about filming during seasons 4 to 6. Asthall Visit the picturesque village of Asthall, childhood home of the glamorous and controversial Mitford sisters. Discover how these sisters became some of the most talked-about figures in 20th-century Britain—with surprising connections to Hitler and the Dukes of Devonshire. During your time in Asthall you will also see the Church which Matthew and Edith visit in Downton season one. The Swan Inn Enjoy a delicious pub lunch at The Swan, a favourite haunt of former Prime Minister David Cameron. (Lunch is not included in the tour price.) Whilst here your guide will explain how the exterior of the pub was used in Downton Abbey. Swinbrook (Pass By) Admire the scenic beauty of Swinbrook, home of the Mitford family, as we drive through. Your guide will point out filming locations used in the Bridget Jones movies. Fulbrook (Pass By) Take in the postcard-perfect charm of this quintessential Cotswolds village as we pass by. Burford Wander through Burford, one of the most beautiful villages in the Cotswolds. Though not featured in Downton Abbey, its stunning High Street is ideal for shopping, admiring historic architecture, and capturing unforgettable photos. Shilton Cross the charming forded river and stroll past centuries-old cottages in Shilton, one of the region’s most photogenic villages—complete with a historic pub. This picturesque location is the perfect place to learn how different teams worked across Downton Abbey to create the masterpiece we all know and love. Bampton The grand finale of your tour takes you to Bampton, the real-life filming location for Downton Abbey’s village scenes. See iconic buildings from the show, meet friendly locals, and visit the 12th-century church that played a key role in the series. It is here where you will be able to see how movie magic didn't really need to do much, as this village is as charming in real life as it is in Downton.
