The journey, in full
The tour starts at Blackfriars Station, just a short walk from the Blackfriar pub. You'll learn about the pub and, if it's open, have the chance to peek inside. Passing by the first gin distillery in the City of London in over 200 years. As you walk, you'll hear about its fascinating history. You'll also enjoy a magnificent view of St. Bride's Church as you walk past. Along the way, you'll learn about the brilliant architect behind the church. As you continue, you’ll hear about some famous regulars who frequented the pub and learn more about its history. If you wish, you can even stop inside for a quick drink (at your own expense). You'll walk past the house of Dr. Johnson, the man behind the first English dictionary published by Oxford. You’ll hear a bit about him during the tour. Next, you’ll pass by the statue of Hodge the Cat. Feel free to stop and admire the statue, and take in some of the fine details pointed out to you. As you walk, you’ll pass by the oldest vintners and wine merchants in the City of London. You’ll hear about their history, along with a humorous story about a female customer. The tour also passes by the narrowest pub in the city. You’ll hear a bit about this unique pub as you walk. As you pass by Prince Henry's Room, you'll learn about its architectural details and some of its history. Passing the Royal Courts of Justice, you’ll hear about some of the famous names connected to the city’s second-highest civil court. You'll also walk by London’s oldest tailors. You’ll learn about the store’s long history as you go. The tour passes The Seven Stars pub. You’ll hear about its clientele, the story behind its name, and its history. Next, you'll pass the infamous Hunterian Museum, where you’ll learn about the museum’s collections and displays. The tour also takes you past what is possibly London's most exquisite small museum. You'll hear about the museum and the man it's named after. The tour ends outside The Ship Tavern. You’ll hear about the tavern and its history, and if you’d like, you can stop in afterward for a drink (at your own expense).
