Go for a fascinating tour to Alexandria from Cairo in the company of your Egyptologist guide. The second-largest city in Egypt, Alexandria has an atmosphere that is more Mediterranean than Middle Eastern and is famous for its Roman remains. With your Egyptologist guide to lead the way, you'll enjoy personalized attention on your tour of Alexandria. During the tour, you can determine the amount of time you'd like to spend at each of the sites you'll visit. Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great in 332 B.C. and was the capital of Graeco-Roman Egypt. Your first stop in this historic city is the catacombs of Kom ash-Shoqafa, a Roman burial site whose family tomb reveals the merging of Egyptian and Roman art and architecture. Descend below ground to visit the tomb and Caracalla Hall. The next site you will stop at is the fort of Qaitbay, built in 1477 to protect the eastern side of the city. The fort was built in the same location as the great lighthouse of Alexandria. After lunch (at additional cost) you will visit the famous Alexandria Library. In contrast to the ancient architecture found throughout Egypt, the Norwegian-designed building is a striking piece of modern design. A copy of every book published in the world is kept in the library, making it one of the great literary sites in the world. The library also houses several exhibitions relating to the history of Egypt and a display of rare antique books (at additional cost).

Meet your professional Egyptologist guide at your hotel in Cairo and start your journey to the legendary Mediterranean city of Alexandria, Egypt’s second-largest city and the former capital of Graeco-Roman Egypt. Travel in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle and enjoy a personalized guided experience as you explore Alexandria’s most iconic historical landmarks. Your first stop will be the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, the most important Roman burial site in Egypt. Descend underground to explore the fascinating tomb chambers and Caracalla Hall, where Egyptian and Roman architectural styles blend in a unique and mysterious way. Continue your tour to the impressive Qaitbay Citadel, built in the 15th century on the exact location of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. After that, you will head to the famous Bibliotheca Alexandrina (Alexandria Library) — a striking modern architectural masterpiece that revives the spirit of the ancient Library of Alexandria. Discover its cultural exhibitions and rich collections before enjoying free time for lunch (optional, at additional cost). At the end of your tour, relax as you are comfortably transferred back to your hotel in Cairo. Please note that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is closed on Fridays. For tours scheduled on a Friday, we will apply the following adjustments: The visit inside the library will be replaced with another culturally significant site in Alexandria. For guests who are particularly interested in the library, a stop at the library’s exterior can be included to admire its unique modern design and take photos.
