The Experience

What your day looks like

We begin the tour with a visit to a typical country house to mingle with Dominicans and learn how to live off the land and their organic products. The next 45 minutes are occupied by a guided tour that allows you to interact in close proximity to our beautiful and friendly squirrel monkeys. These charming and intelligent monkeys have been brought together by a Canadian couple with 35 years of experience working with animals, including 12 years at the Toronto Zoo teaching monkeys to trust and enjoy the company of humans. The monkeys are completely accustomed to human contact. They come down from the trees to sit on your shoulder and eat from your hands. Little monkeys love to pose for the cameras and take selfies! This tour is based on 5 acres of a beautiful piece of land that monkeys have made their home.

We had such a great time at Monkeyland! The guides are exceptional and you can see how much they love and care for the monkeys, too. And the coffee and chocolate presentation were fantastic! A special shout out to our guide, George! He was wonderful!

I've travelled a lot and this was by far one of the best excursions I've ever been on. Everyone should go to Monkeyland at least once in their lifetime! Apart from how much we enjoyed the experience ourselves, watching the utter joy on the kids' faces when the monkeys were climbing on them was spectacular! Getting there was a bit of an irritation. Our pickup was late [which is fine] but then the driver had to return to hotels more than once to pickup late arrivals. My one other less positive observation is that it should've been made clearer to us at the plantation that Mamajuana contains [a lot of] alcohol, before we were given a sample to try. Our tour guide was funny and friendly. I do wish he'd given us more information about the DR, etc., along the way. Oh - and the price of this experience through Project Expedition was substantially less than through other providers. Overall - absolutely awesome!
