Roskilde & Viking Ship Museum Private Driving Tour
What your day looks like
Step back in time as we leave the vibrant city of Copenhagen and journey into Denmark’s fascinating past. Rolling countryside, historic towns, and centuries of heritage await as we make our way to Roskilde, the former Danish capital and a city deeply connected to Viking and royal history. Our first stop is the Viking Ship Museum, where the seafaring world of the Vikings comes to life. Thanks to the Vikings’ enduring legacy and modern preservation efforts, this museum stands as a testament to their remarkable history. Here, we will see five original 11th-century ships that once sailed the Nordic waters before being discovered in Roskilde Fjord. As we explore, the guide will share stories of Viking exploration, trade, and naval warfare. You may also see artisans working in the shipyard, using traditional techniques to reconstruct these vessels. Next, we visit Roskilde Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the final resting place of Danish kings and queens. This architectural masterpiece blends Gothic and Romanesque styles and offers a setting rich in history, art, and royal heritage. As we walk through its halls and chapels, we will learn about the monarchs who shaped Denmark’s past. Before returning, we will have time to explore the town of Roskilde, where history meets modern Danish charm. Walk through its streets, visit local shops, or relax at a café while enjoying the atmosphere. As we return to Copenhagen, you will leave with a deeper understanding of Denmark’s Viking heritage and royal history after visiting two of its most remarkable landmarks.

What to Bring
Part of this tour takes place in areas where you will have to walk on cobblestones. We suggest wearing comfortable shoes. While the five Viking ships at the Viking Ship Museum may appear weathered, their incredible seafaring, battles, and discovery history make them far more impressive than their age-worn appearance suggests. Denmark is a country with four seasons. Please dress accordingly.
