Frederiksborg & Kronborg Castle Private Driving Tour
What your day looks like
On the way to our grand destinations for the day, we will leave the bustling city of Copenhagen behind to discover the Danish countryside and the variety of landscapes and charming towns it offers. Together, we will experience rural, coastal, and royal settings as we visit both Frederiksborg Castle, built in the 1600s to enhance King Christian IV’s status as an influential European monarch, and Kronborg Castle from the 1500s, better known as Hamlet’s Castle due to Shakespeare’s play. We begin with Frederiksborg Castle, once a summer residence and now a museum that houses the Museum of National History, presenting 500 years of Danish history. We will visit the castle and walk through the grounds of the largest Renaissance complex in the Nordic region while the guide shares stories of past eras. Frederiksborg Castle is beautifully situated on three small islets and features an impressive baroque garden and chapel. Be sure to have your camera ready. From one castle to the next, we continue to Kronborg Castle, which stands on a narrow promontory between the coasts of Denmark and Sweden. This is another perfect photo location. Learn whether Shakespeare ever visited Kronborg Castle and how it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If time allows, we will include a short photo stop at Fredensborg, another royal residence from the 1700s located in the area. Many photogenic palaces can be found here. As we return to Copenhagen, we will have explored Danish history and admired some of the country’s finest architecture.

What to Bring
Most of this tour takes place in areas where you will need to walk on gravel or unpaved walkways. We suggest wearing comfortable shoes. Guests cannot bring bags into the castles; all bags need to be stored in the lockers found at Frederiksbrog and Kronborg Castle. There are quite a few stairs in Kronborg and no elevators at the castle. Denmark is a country with four seasons. Please dress accordingly.
Meeting & Pickup
Meeting point in Copenhagen. We will start and end at the guests’ accommodation, provided it is located within the inner-city area of each destination. If the accommodation is outside this area, an additional fee may apply for pick-up and drop-off.
