Member of the European Nightwatchman Guild. The experience, in brief
- The nightwatchman who locked Prague's gates at dusk and enforced curfew with a halberd brought to life by a professional guide in full 17thcentury costume, on the exact streets where medieval justice was anything but gentle.
The journey, in full
Stop 1 - Powder Gate (Meeting Point) Meet your nightwatchman at one of Prague's most iconic medieval landmarks - the gate that once marked the boundary between the city and the outside world, locked every night at dusk. Stop 2 — Fruit Market & Estates Theatre Prague's oldest market, trading since the 13th century - and the theatre where Mozart's Don Giovanni had its world premiere in 1787. Our nightwatchman's opinion of Mozart's long-term career prospects has barely changed since. Stop 3 - Old Town Square & Jan Hus Monument The true, unvarnished story of 27 Protestant leaders publicly executed here on a single Tuesday in 1621. The crosses are still set into the cobblestones. Most tourists walk straight over them. Stop 4 - Medieval fire safety & beer regulations Why 17th-century Prague's fire safety rules somehow always involved mandatory beer - and what this tells us about life in a city built almost entirely of wood. Stop 5 - Charles Bridge & Karl IV (Finishing Point) Plague survival tips, the story of the man who built the bridge and never crossed it, and a group photo with Prague Castle or the statue of Charles IV as backdrop. Followed by the nightwatchman's traditional horn call - modest but memorable.

What to Bring
Best for: History lovers, evening visitors, families, anyone who finds daytime Prague too crowded. Weather-appropriate clothing - the tour runs rain, snow, wind or shine. The Nightwatchman has patrolled in all weathers since 1633. He has run out of sympathy for drizzle. Family-friendly and suitable for all ages - children must be accompanied by a parent throughout. The halberd is not a toy. The handcuffs are occasionally optional. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on a leash. Please bring water and waste bags. The Nightwatchman has encountered worse things on these streets.
Meeting & Pickup
Our meeting point is náměstí Republiky 1090/5. However, we can meet just next to it, directly in front of the old powder gate/powder tower. Just look for a person with halberd and big hat.
