The Experience

What your day looks like

Dresden Viewed from the Elbe, Dresden's skyline is dominated by the spires, domes, and towers of the city’s stately buildings. This picturesque view makes it difficult to imagine the horrors of the firestorm that engulfed Dresden when close to four tons of bombs were dropped on it. Although many of the buildings were destroyed, their treasures had been hidden away during the war, meaning they can be viewed today in the rebuilt city, which now stands as a tribute to peace and reconciliation. Modern-day Dresden is lush and green, rich in culture, art, and history and is a paradise for culture vultures who can explore the museums and palaces while architecture buffs can marvel at the variety of architecture on display. Bastei Standing a staggering 1,000 feet above sea level, the Bastei rock formation towers over the Elbe River. The panoramic views over the Elbe Valley have to be seen to be believed and year-on-year, the Bastei is the most popular viewing point in Saxon Switzerland. Visitors can be as adventuresome or sedate as they choose there are walking trails for everyone. Some of the rocks are connected by the magnificent sandstone Bastei Bridge built-in 1851 to replace the original wooden bridge from 1824, which remains one of the most photogenic attractions in the park. It is difficult to imagine that humans once lived among the wild and rugged nature and signs of how they used to live are still clearly visible. Whether taking a leisurely stroll or a stiff hike, the naturally fragrant air, phenomenal nature with jaw-dropping views and the stunning man-made bridge will make your stop-off one to never forget. Terezin Originally built by Emperor Joseph II and named in honor of his mother Maria Theresa, the Theresienstadt garrison town was commandeered by the Nazis from 1940 as a Gestapo prison and ghetto/camp for Czech Jews. Although it was not an extermination camp 35,000 people died in the camp through malnutrition, overcrowding, and brutality, while 88,000 were deported to Auschwitz. Today Terezin is a huge living monument-complex to those who died in horrific circumstances, providing a detailed insight into their incarceration, and is an invaluable, though highly dignified, educational tool. The cramped dimensions of isolation cells can be experienced inside the 'Small Fortress' along with the similarly minimal 'Common Rooms' for women prisoners. Inside the walls of the 'Large Fortress', one can walk down the streets of the ghetto, and later perhaps pay one's respects to the people who suffered here in the Jewish and Christian cemeteries. *Optional third party activities such as tours or attraction fees are not included in the price. We can’t guarantee that every attraction will be open for your trip, so we recommend checking the opening hours in advance. *Please note that this experience includes a private driver but it does not include a guide and is not a guided tour.

This tour was a great day trip from Prague. A variety of sites to visit, from Terezin, to Bastei and then Dresden - each one was so unique. Our driver was fantastic and while he was not a guide, which we knew, he filled us in with some wonderful facts and made sure that our day was perfect! Highly recommend!
