Detailed Itinerary

The journey, in full

TWO COUNTRIES IN ONE DAY From Dubrovnik to Kotor and Trebinje: A Balkan Odyssey (Montenegro & Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1 Day!) Prepare yourself for a full-day adventure that will sweep you through the stunning contrasts of the Balkans! Leave the crowds of Dubrovnik behind and immerse yourself in the history and natural beauty of two different countries. The Enchanting Bay of Kotor: Where Mountains Meet the Sea Your odyssey begins with a pickup near your accommodation, followed by a short drive to the Montenegrin border. After crossing, the spectacle begins! The Coastal Drive: We follow the winding shores of the Bay of Kotor (Boka Kotorska), driving through picturesque towns like Herceg Novi and a number of other scenic villages. The Perfect Photo Stop: We pause at Verige viewpoint (10 min) (the narrowest part of Kotor Bay) and stop at Banja viewpoint with (5 min) great picturesque views of the inner part of the Bay of Kotor, the town of Perast, and the magical islands of Our Lady of the Rocks and Saint George Tip: Get your cameras ready! These are the postcards you'll take home. Kotor: A Venetian Jewel Beneath the Cliffs We arrive in Kotor, an ancient city-state protected by UNESCO. Spend time exploring the labyrinth of narrow streets, sunny squares, and centuries-old churches of this city built under strong Venetian influence. Free Time in Kotor (2 hours 15 min): The ideal time for climbing the fortifications (for the most resilient) or enjoying a relaxed snack Gourmet Tip: Take the opportunity to try authentic Montenegrin delicacies: homemade prosciutto and cheese, ideally paired with a glass of robust Montenegrin Vranac wine! Ascent and Panoramas: The Road to Bosnia After Kotor, we drive back along the Bay and begin the dramatic ascent up Mount Orjen. Grab Viewpoint (5-10 min): A stop at this point offers the most spectacular view of the entire Bay of Kotor. You'll feel like you're on top of the world! A Bosnian Surprise: We cross the border and enter Bosnia and Herzegovina. We visit Gračanica Hill, where you can marvel panoramic view of the entire Trebišnjica River Valley and the stunning Orthodox Church of Herzegovinian Gračanica. (15-20 min) Trebinje: Ottoman Charm with an Austrian Stamp (1-1,5 hours) We descend into Trebinje, a city that is a fascinating blend of Ottoman Turkish and Austro-Hungarian architecture. Old Town and Promenade: Stroll through the historic center and feel the rhythm of life. Have a coffee in the shade of the massive, century-old 16 Plane Oriental Plane Trees – the heart of the city's social life! A Culinary Paradise: This is your chance to taste authentic Bosnian flavors: Ćevapčići in pita bread with Kajmak (a must-try!) A sweet feast: irresistible Baklava or Tufahija. Return to Dubrovnik After Trebinje, a short drive (40-60 minutes, depending on traffic) brings you back across the border to Dubrovnik, leaving you with unforgettable memories of two incredible Balkan gems. This is more than a trip – it's a journey through the history, culture, and most beautiful landscapes of the Adriatic and its hinterland!
