The Experience

What your day looks like

Explore the fascinating river ecosystem while immersing yourself in the serenity of the forest, gently gliding down the Peñas Blancas River on a raft that allows you to get close to wildlife without disturbing it. The absence of a motor provides a serene and immersive experience, where the predominant sounds are the songs of birds, the calls of howler monkeys, and the gentle murmur of the river, as if you were immersed in the heart of the jungle. During the tour, the guides share their knowledge of the ecosystem and provide valuable information about the flora and fauna. Thanks to their expertise, they are able to spot species hidden within the dense vegetation, even those that rely on camouflage and mimicry. Among the possible sightings are herons, bats, white-faced monkeys, howler monkeys, sloths, and the unique “Jesus Christ” lizards. The vegetation surrounding the river is a spectacle in itself. Majestic trees such as ficus, “sota caballo,” and ceibas, covered with vines and epiphyte plants, intertwine their branches on both sides of the river, creating lush green tunnels where delicate rays of sunlight filter through, forming an enchanting and vibrant setting. At the end of the tour, the experience concludes with a visit to a local home to enjoy a traditional homemade snack. The host family offers fried plantains, yucca bread, and fresh juice — a delicious and refreshing way to end a day surrounded by nature and exotic wildlife.

Great guide (Nelson) and fun float. Didn’t see many animals but it was nice all the same. The snacks at the end added a lot to the experience!

This was a great gentle float down a river with sightseeing. If you're hoping for whitewater, then this is not the tour to book. If you're looking for a mellow float down a river with views of monkeys, birds, iguanas, and sloths, then this is awesome! I wouldn't have minded both but if you want whitewater then you'll need to book a separate tour with these guys. That said, it was a really great relaxing and beautiful float, the guides were very professional and fun, and it included a fun light lunch made by local farmers who own land where the take-out is.
