Come with us for an amazing wildlife experience and introduction of the most common animals in Costa Rica at the most important Zoo & Wildlife Rescue Center in our country. In 1990, The Rescue center was born under a new administration with a new vision, prioritizing conservation and animal welfare. The previously owned Zooave opened its doors in the 1960s and was a small private zoo located in La Garita de Alajuela with facilities and a framework that at the time focused on the export and exhibition of wildlife. The principal motivation of the previously owned facilities was to earn profit from the animals The new administration's goal was to eliminate the previous inadequate location and move the animals to a larger property of 36 acres that borders the Itiquis River and forms an important biological corridor in the area. This then evolved into a new inspiration for creating a non-profit organization with modern facilities. Zooave would focus on conservation, animal welfare, and environmental education. Within our park, you will find beautiful botanical gardens and more than 125 species of animals. Among the birds, mammals, and reptiles that have been rescued and, due to health or behavioral reasons, cannot be fully rehabilitated for reintroduction into their natural habitat. The large enclosures are naturally designed to offer these animals quality of life and enrichment. Accompanied by our naturalist tour guide, explore this unique and interesting project.
