The journey, in full
Our main tour departs from your hotel at 5:15 a.m. and arrives at the Arenal Mundo Aventura Natural Park around 5:30 a.m. The walk will end around 9:30 a.m. and include a 30-minute break for a delicious continental breakfast, accompanied by juice, fruit, and hot coffee. The circuit trail combines areas of tree-planting, a forest gallery near an important river in the region, a forest in regeneration where there are pastures with open areas and small streams that allow the observation of open-area birds, aquatic birds, and birds of forested habitats. Among the most common birds in this place are the Great Kiskadee (Pitangus Sulphuratus), the Yellow Tyrannulet (Capsiempis Flaveola), the Montezuma Oropendola (Psarocolius Montezuma), the Wing-barred seedeater (Sporophila Americana), the Tropical Kingbird (Tyrannus Melancholicus), the Red-billed Pigeon (Patagioenas Flavirostris), and the Groove-billed Ani (Crotophaga Sulsirostris). In addition to these, you can observe less common resident species, such as the Slaty spinetail, which elaborates a nest with an impressive platform of twigs. The Laughing Falcon (Herpetotheres Cachinnans) is a large hawk whose presence is an indicator of a healthy environment. Its diet depends on snakes, which feed on frogs, rodents, lizards, birds, and other snakes. It is also possible to sight Black-cheeked Woodpeckers (Melanerpes Pucherani) and Guianan Trogons (Trogon Violaceus). Among the aquatic birds which are also present but more difficult to observe, are the Uniform Crake (Amaurolimnas Concolor) and the White-throated Crake (Laterallus Albigularis). If you prefer a more technical tour with other types of birds, you can choose between 9 alternate options in a semi-private mode. We will assign a specialized guide by reservation. Among the additional options we offer Birdwatching at Lake Arenal, Hanging Bridges, Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, Danaus Ecocenter, El Silencio Reserve, Juan Castro Blanco Cloud Forest, Children’s Eternal Rainforest, among others. If you are looking for a specific bird, we can guide you in your election.
