The taxi-boat-taxi service (or sometimes called jeep-boat-jeep, although nobody uses jeeps anymore, vans and buses are much more common) is a one-way transfer between Monteverde and Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna. Or vice versa. By taking a motorized, covered boat ride across the Arenal Lake you can save time driving or riding the bus. This shuttle departs twice daily traveling from Monteverde to Arenal, or Arenal to Monteverde. The trip lasts 3 - 4 hours and provides door to door service for most hotels.The cloud forest of Monteverde and the city of La Fortuna, are two favorite tourist destinations in Costa Rica and are only 25 km from each other. But with an altitude difference of 1150 m, the active volcano, the largest lake in Costa Rica, seven rivers and a range of dense mountains. The direct passage between the two cities is difficult. Making the road trip takes approximately 4 to 5 hours by vehicle, or 8 hours, 136 kilometers by bus, passing through the city of Tilarán. Two much more convenient routes are available, shortening the trip in a great way. The taxi-boat-taxi trip from Monteverde to La Fortuna, or vice versa, combines the excitement of an adventure trip with the convenience of a transport service. This is the fastest and most popular route between Monteverde and Arenal. It runs twice a day, every day of the year, whether it rains or not.
