What your day looks like

Our day begins with a visit to the stunning Llanos de Cortés Waterfall, where you can take a refreshing dip and relax in one of Guanacaste’s most picture-perfect natural river pools. From there, we transition to a story of passion and preservation. Las Pumas Rescue Center and Sanctuary was founded in 1989 by Swiss nationals Werner Hagnauer and his wife, Lilly Bodmer. Today, the sanctuary boasts nearly 40 years of dedicated experience in the rescue, rehabilitation, and management of Costa Rican wildlife. Following Lilly’s passing in 2001, Mr. Werner and a group of close friends established the Hagnauer Foundation in her honor. This non-profit organization continues to manage and fund the sanctuary’s vital work today. By joining this tour, your entrance fee directly contributes to the foundation, providing essential funding for the care and protection of these rescued animals. Though Mr. Werner passed away in 2015, his incredible vision lives on, leaving behind a monumental legacy for wildlife conservation in Costa Rica. To wrap up the perfect day, we will make a final stop in the historic town of Liberia for some local souvenir and artisan shopping before heading back.
