The Andean moorlands and their water wells are a unique environment. Between 3,500 and 4,000 meters above sea level, with its 178 thousand hectares, Sumapaz is a biodiversity hotspot like no other. The largest of its kind in the world, Sumapaz is also the most important water source in the region. It is a cold, humid and vast environment, and a natural wonder you can’t miss. But before starting the hike properly, you’ll need an energy boost. So you’ll be invited to share a local breakfast at our special moorlands guide’s home. Then, come to the local market and pick from the local produce market what you’ll like to have for lunch. It will be cooked by our guide’s family while we venture into the moorlands. Inside the natural park, learn from our guide about the important indigenous traditions that were practiced before colonization. The park’s ecological and cultural importance will become apparent. Also, get a sense of local flora and fauna and the importance of preserving the moorlands and its social and political challenges. Finally, rest your weary feet and enjoy a homecooked meal. Once fully rested, we’ll head back to Bogotá.
