Located at 3,100 meters above sea level, in the jurisdiction of the municipality of Sesquilé, the former Chibcha chiefdom, is the Guatavita lagoon, the most famous of the sacred lagoons of this pre-Columbian culture since it was staged in the legendary rite of El Dorado, which had placed each time a new chief was enthroned and consisted of the entrance of the new naked chief to the lagoon, mounted on a raft, to submerge himself in this waters.
