The Experience

What your day looks like

Your day will start when your driver picks you up from your hotel and takes you to your first stop: the Monserrate Sanctuary, located in the imposing Eastern Hills of the city at an altitude of 3,150 MASL. Ascending to the top of the mountain by cable car, you will reach the most famous pilgrimage site in the city and perhaps the most incredible lookout point in the capital. This is the best spot to understand the city’s historical and spatial context. To continue the city tour, you will cross into La Candelaria and become immersed in the most impressive collection of indigenous gold artifacts at the Gold Museum. As you leave, you'll have the chance to shop at the handicrafts market in Parque Santander. After the walking tour in La Candelaria, you will reach Plaza de Bolívar, where administrative and governmental buildings—icons of the country’s historical development—surround the main square. As soon as the city tour is over, you will be taken to the charming town of Zipaquirá, where you will visit the Zipaquirá Salt Cathedral. This is a place where the mysticism of the Muiscas (an indigenous culture), Catholic symbolism, and contemporary engineering come together to create a magical experience through tunnels and vast underground chambers. On this tour, you will enter an old salt mine that has been transformed into a cathedral. Here, artists and sculptors have shaped the underground materials to create unique representations of Catholic symbols. Learn from an expert guide about this process and the meanings behind the artworks you will see. You will then head to the colonial village of Zipaquirá, where you’ll walk through the main square, surrounded by several buildings declared national monuments. Here, you will taste delicious regional baked goods and explore the local handicraft market. Finally, you will return to Bogotá, where you will be driven back to your hotel.
