What your day looks like

Host Bio: Cristian is a Chilean resident, who has lived abroad for many years. He started cooking when he was an exchange student in the US. He missed home food so much that he taught himself to cook a few of his favorite dishes using family recipes. And then he learned cooking professionally and worked in the airline and airport business for 13 years. He then ran his restaurant for 10 years, started a catering company, and also studied to be a certified English-Portuguese interpreter and translator. His love for food and cooking has been lifelong and he is so excited to welcome travelers into his home, share his food, and teach them about Chilean culture, ingredients, and history. Cooking Description: In the evening's (dinner menu) Cristian offers a hands-on Chilean cooking class at his apartment in El Golf, Santiago. If you live centrally, Cristian will pick you up from your hotel at 6 pm and will drive you to his apartment. You will be welcomed with oysters and stunning views of the city. Followed by a hands-on cooking class, where you will learn to cook two dishes - pastel de choclo (Chilean beef and corn pie) and cardamom ceviche from scratch. After cooking, join Cristian at the beautiful outdoor table (weather permitting) covered in white linen, flowers, and candles to enjoy the meal you helped prepare. Your traditional Chilean meal will be served with wine pairings and some desserts such as cheesecake and strawberries. Market Tour Description: In the morning (lunch menu), Cristian offers a guided visit to the most important local markets in Santiago, followed by a hands-on cooking class and a traditional Chilean meal, with wine pairings. If you live centrally, Cristian will pick you up from your hotel at 10 am and you will be whisked for your guided tour to the markets - meat market (Vega Chica), fish market (Mercado Central), and fresh market (Vega Grande), being this last one the largest fresh market in Latin America. This is where Cristian buys his fresh produce - a great opportunity to see the local shops, get introduced to the produce, get insights on how the ingredients are used in Chilean cooking, and get the chance to interact with vendors, some of which are Cristian's friends. After the tour, drive to Cristian's apartment to cook traditional Chilean dishes with ingredients you bought at the market. You will be welcomed with oysters, before you begin your hands-on Chilean cooking class, where you will learn to cook two dishes - charquicán (a local aboriginal dish) and cardamom ceviche from scratch. After cooking, enjoy the meal you helped prepare with wine and some dessert such as cheesecake and strawberries.
