What your day looks like
We drive you to a remote, dark observatory 2 hours form Santiago to gaze at the beautiful southern skies with a perfect view of the Milky Way! Our astronomer specializes in the cosmology of Andean peoples, so you will not only learn about Astronomy and Western cosmology, but also about how our ancestors looked at the skies.
The experience, in brief
- Visit a self built observatory nestled in the Andes with 260 clear nights per year!
- Learn about Western astronomy as well as the cosmology of Andean people
- Observe objects in the clear, crisp Chilean night sky under the ideal conditions
The journey, in full
- We pick you up from your hotel and drive through beautiful countryside tourists hardly ever get to visit. - When we arrive at the observatory, our hosts regale us with a big "once Chilena" our version of tea, which includes homemade breads and confections, as well as local cheeses, marmalades, honey and other products, plus tea, coffee, juice and wine. - After we eat, we are introduced to local Mapuche and Inca cultures and the relevance of the night sky, within this self-built observatory, which is oriented to relevant astronomical phenomena. - After the introduction, we move to the observation with the telescope as well as the naked eye. - After 3 - 3.5 hours of breathtaking stars, great food and amazing people, we drive you comfortably back to your hotel.
