Cayman Crystal Caves have formed over millions of years. Fossilized shells and animal life in the caves show us that at one time, the mass now containing the caves were all located under the sea. Over time, as sea levels changed and land began to rise, rooms began to form through water erosion, making caves. Within these rooms, spectacular stalagmite and stalactite crystal structures began to form, as rainwater dripping through the limestone ceiling of the caves left calcium deposits behind. The caves are still today continuing to evolve. The process of stalagmite and stalactite formation occurs as rainwater becomes slightly acidic when it first travels through surrounding plants, earth, and other organic matter. This acidic water dissolves part of the limestone as it seeps through the earth, and re-deposits microscopic calcium layers, as the water drips from the cave ceilings. Over time these deposits collectively form the crystal structures. Hundreds of years ago, Pirates used these caves as hideouts, and also as shelters from the elements, including hurricanes. Legend has it that there are pirate treasures buried in some of these caves. Situated in a lush tropical forest in Northside, Grand Cayman, Cayman Crystal Caves is the Island’s newest nature tourist attraction. All visitors receive guided walking tours. Tours are approximately 1.5 hours and take you through the surrounding tropical forest area and 3 spectacular caves. You will venture into amazing caves where you’ll see stalactite and stalagmite crystal structures and otherworldly formations, formed by single drops of water and the slow passage of time. Tour through the unique tropical forest nature, under which the caves formed. Amongst the forest and caves are captivating tropical plant and animal life, including strangler balsam trees, air plants, and bats.

Please, be advised that guests on ships anchoring in Grand Cayman must take a small boat called a tender to shore. It is very important that you are in line early for the tenders to shore if you want to make it to the tour before it departs. It can take approximately 60 minutes to wait for tenders and get ashore. Once you arrive at the Royal Watler Terminal and exit through security, you should continue walking straight, and you will see a tent with a white canopy, hanging above a sign with the word “CAYTOURS” this is where our dispatch team will be. The tour departs from the dispatch booth at the Royal Terminal. Guests tendering to the North and South Terminal: You must make your way over to the Royal Watler Terminal (you can ask the port security for directions), you will be met by Cay Tours personnel holding a sign with the word “CAYTOURS” for easy identification. Guests tendering at the Spotts dock, due to rough sea conditions at the Royal, North & South terminals, must remain in the same place, you will be met by Cay Tours personnel holding a sign with the word “CAYTOURS” for easy identification. The tour departs from the Spotts Dock. Staying at a hotel or Airbnb? We pick up from all hotels and accommodations on Seven Mile Beach. Please make sure to inform us of your location in advance, so that we can make proper arrangements and ensure a timely pick up.

If you have time I recommend going on this tour. Our tour guide was great and it was a cool experience. If you are on the 7 Mile Beach side make sure you allot 45 minutes or an hour to get there.

Our excursion started off on the wrong foot due to the strong winds causing our ship to have to tender to a different docking area than normal. We hadn't received communication letting us know to stay there so we took a shuttle into town to the North Terminal, which is what our paperwork said. After waiting about 45 minutes, a kind security guard called the number listed on our reservation as our phones had no service. We were able to make contact with someone from Cay Tours (the local supplier) and they alerted the driver to come get us. It took another 30 minutes for them to arrive, but everything went smoothly after that. The driver, Nancy, was personable and told us some information about the island as we traveled to the caves. Once there, we learned about the history of the caves from one of the original family descendants. Our guide, Eric, drove us over some really bumpy roads to the entry points of the caves. Eric was animated and friendly, and though he did a decent job, we would have preferred to hear less of his stories about when he was growing up in the area and learn more of the caves history. Just a personal preference as I'm sure the majority of the group was fine with his tour. I would recommend this tour to anyone staying on the island or those visiting by ship, just make sure you know where to go once you arrive in port. It's a great option instead of doing water activities, especially since most of those excursions were cancelled that day due to poor weather. I would not recommend this to anyone with mobility issues. Even though there wasn't a huge amount of walking, much of the surface was rocky and unveven, which could definitely cause issues for someone not sure on their feet.

Excellent tour. Easy walking and tour guide Syd was very knowledgeable about the caves since he used to play in them when he was a kid. He is a fierce protector of the caves and what they mean to the island.

We had Yves as our guide and he was AMAZING! Very seamless, getting off the ship, easily found our group. The van driver was wonderful and told us about the history of the island. The tour was great.
