Detailed Itinerary

The journey, in full

This tour gets deep into the history of the Jewish community in Montreal while visiting the most iconic eateries. We start out at one of the two rival smoked meat establishments, eating smoked meat and some other surprises and learning about the Jewish community in Monreal. Next, we move to a kosher bakery for a pastry that we eat while listening to some Yiddish poetry translated to english. After that we hit our fist bagel shop, taste and learn about the bagel- the Montreal BAGEL!! We stop off for a quick ice cream owned by a prominent many generations of entrepreneurs Jewish family. Next we hit a young and hip Israeli falafel joint. We see many historical landmarks and murals as we snake our way to our second bagel factory stop so you can weigh in on these two rivals. Next we hit a deli that has been open for more than 85 years and eat their specialty sandwich and drink. We learn about the history of the neighbourhood as we go along. We then have a stop that allows us to talk about political and class conflict within the Jewish community over time and some notorious women. We hit a notorious young and hip bakery for some delicious sweet and savoury goods. We stop in a park next to the house of a famous Jewish Montrealer for a poetry break. We continue on to our last smoked meat stop and a historical and truly unique synagogue. Here we end the tour. By this point, your bellies will be fed, your legs exercised and your mind steeped in history, story, the city and good company. Join us!

Overall the experience was great. Our guide, Darren, was fantastic - very knowledgeable not only about the food, but the history of the town and the Jewish community. I definitely recommend this tour, but make sure you come hungry!
