The Mountain Discovery tour takes you through the temperate rainforest of Vancouver’s North Shore with stops to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and Grouse Mountain. Visit the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, where your adrenaline is sure to be pumping. Walk amongst ancient cedar trees on the Treetops Adventure canopy walkways. Enjoy the thrill of the Cliffwalk, a series of structured and suspended walkways jutting out from the granite cliff face. Don’t miss the heart-pounding journey across the iconic suspension bridge, 73 meters (230 feet) above Capilano River. Rising 1,250 meters (4,100 feet) above Vancouver, Grouse Mountain offers stunning city views and a variety of nature based activities. Explore the Refuge for Endangered Wildlife, home to the grizzly bears, Grinder and Coola. Have lunch in one of the several dining outlets, or ride the Peak Chair to the very top of the mountain and visit the Eye of the Wind, a large wind turbine. Also, witness the impressive Cleveland Dam to see its massive 300-foot spillway and capture stunning photos of Capilano Lake framed by the iconic "Lions" peaks.

The journey, in full
You begin with a slow drive over the Lions Gate Bridge spanning the entrance to Vancouver’s port. This was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it was completed in 1938, and it offers unparalleled views of the harbor, and beyond. Once across to the North Shore, it is a short drive to the Cleveland Dam. Stand atop the massive 300-foot spillway to witness the raw power of the rushing river and capture postcard-perfect photos of the turquoise Capilano Lake framed by the iconic "Lions" mountain peaks. The Capilano Suspension Bridge – Vancouver’s very first tourist experience. Walk among the towering trees of this temperate rainforest and learn the ways of the local Indigenous Peoples. On the other side of the bridge, you can climb amongst the tree canopies and stroll through the Treetops Adventure walkway high above the canyon floor and the river below. If you are feeling adventurous, try the Cliffwalk; this heart-stopping cliffside journey takes you through rainforest vegetation on a series of unobtrusive cantilevered and suspended walkways jutting out from the granite cliff face above Capilano River. The Grouse Mountain Skyride – Take the tram 1,200 metres (3,700 feet) to the viewpoint above the city. Be enthralled by the now grown orphaned grizzly bears at the Refuge for Endangered Wildlife. Get up close and personal with these amazing creatures with only a thin wire fence and learn about bear conservation. Did we mention the view? Enjoys views of Vancouver’s downtown core and the surrounded forest areas. Grouse Mountain also offers casual and fine dining experiences. This is truly a great place to create lasting memories for you and your loved ones. Every tour is operated with a 24 passenger air conditioned bus with large viewing windows and only aisle or window seats. Guests are free to remain on the bus at the stops. All tours are conducted in English by our friendly and award-winning tour guides. Pick up time will be confirmed when reservations are made; tour will begin when all guests are on board and all tour times are approximate.

What to know before booking

What to Bring
Suggested clothing: Dress in layers. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Don’t forget the fixings! Depending on the weather consider bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, gloves and a waterproof outer layer. Any excess items can be stored on the vehicle while you’re exploring. Accessibility: Moderate mobility is required at each of the tour stops as they include hills, stairs and uneven terrain. There’s a lot of explore. Be prepared to do plenty of walking.
Restrictions
This tour is seasonal and does not operate for a period of time in the winter. Grouse Mountain becomes a ski destination during this time.

We had a good day, enjoyed our tour guide Sean. My only suggestions were that the tour of Grouse Mountain was way too long. 3+ hours. The tour was scheduled to finish around 5:30 and we didn’t even meet for departure until 5:45..then there was all the traffic getting back. Lastly the AC was not working well on the bus. Some people got their own transportation back.

This tour was great ... except for one thing. We signed up for the tour online and received a voucher that said, "Pick-up and drop off at Marriott Residence Inn at 10:35 AM" for the tour that started at 11 AM. The voucher also listed our names, contact info, and our hotel (Fairmont Waterfront). On the morning of the tour, we walked 25 minutes from our hotel to the Marriott Residence Hotel, expecting to be picked up there. However, 11 AM came and went, and no bus came to pick us up. A few minutes later, we got a call from the bus driver asking where we were. He expected to pick us up at our hotel, rather than the Marriott, although that wasn't stated anywhere on the voucher. An empty bus was sent to pick us up and take us to rejoin the tour, which had already started. The pick-up point should have been clearly stated on the voucher.

There was confusion about where we were to pick up the tour. The printout we received noted that we were staying at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel. It also said "Pick-up and drop-off [for the 11 AM tour] at Marriott Residence Inn at 10:35 AM. We walked 25 minutes to get to the Marriott on time, but no bus showed up. At 11 AM, we got a call from the bus driver asking where we were because he thought he was picking us up at the Fairmont Waterfront. Eventually the company sent a bus to pick us up at the Marriott and take us to the tour, which was already in progress.

Out guide Alex was outstanding. His knowledge of all things in Vancouver was nothing short of amazing. The tour itself was wonderful but we believe he made it a memory we will never forget. He’s an absolute gem.

I understand things happen, so we were notified the morning of the excursion that the Grouse Mountain cable car was not operating and other stops would be included. No problem. However, the guide/driver made clear that this was not a great situation from the start. He let us know that he didn't know areas to be visited so he would be relying on GPS and that he didn't know much about the areas, so was really more a driver than a guide. He did stop at a couple of places with scenic views to substitute for view from Grouse Mountain. We were told we would get a partial refund when they called to notify us, but have heard nothing. As I said, I understand things happen, but for this reason, there should always be alternate plans with appropriate staffing. This seemed to be more of a last minute adjustment. Difference between our Landsea Adventure tours to Capilano Bridge and the next day to Victoria was night and day. Inconsistent levels of service across products is never a good thing for future bookings as a participant or for a travel advisor of which I am. :(
