The Experience

What your day looks like

Discover the wonder of the temple town by tuk-tuk with local guides and hosts who have deep roots in Siem Reap. This food tour escapes the tourist traps and includes a countryside village visit for a home-cooked meal during sunset. You’ll get unlimited food and beer at 5 different stops while enjoying an exclusive experience you simply can’t get anywhere else. Kula Cuisine: Visit the only restaurant in town serving cuisine from this small ethnic minority group originating in northwest Cambodia. You’ll love their use of local herbs and homemade pickles to create a unique flavor. Countryside Sunset: Get transported to a different world where water buffalo roam the rice fields and locals pick lotus seeds for a snack. Grab a cold beer and soak in the most magical of hours in Siem Reap’s countryside. Local Family Visit: Visit Brother Vet and his stilted home for a meal in a village older than Angkor. Eat seasonal ingredients where civil war, God Kings, and European trading envoys passed for centuries. Local BBQ: If a street food stall can turn into a restaurant, it means they made it. It also means that this BBQ shop is one of the oldest in town. Come find out why it’s our go-to for beef skewers and what we eat ’em with. Dessert There are plenty of sweet treats in Cambodia, but one stands above the rest. We’ll visit our favorite spot for made-to-order pancakes from a wife-husband duo with a special story. Local Bar Finish the night with an in-house cocktail that highlights local ingredients, or grab an ice-cold pint of Cambodia beer, at a fun hidden hangout. Plus More Surprises: This itinerary is subject to changes and adjustments based on daily vendor operations and availability, but it will always be awesome.

What to Bring

You will be picked up at your hotel by tuktuk and whisked away to our favorite spots around Siem Reap for an authentic experience. Please let us know the hotel you're staying at prior to the tour.

Restrictions

We visit small family-run eateries that specialize in one thing, so vegetarian substitutions are not available at most places. Fish sauce is an essential ingredient in Khmer cuisine and replaces salt in almost every dish. This tour is adaptable to those who are gluten intolerant. Please let us know if you have any other allergies or restrictions.

Before Booking

Our tours have been designed to accommodate as many diets as possible while still remaining authentic and delicious. We prepare our tour menu beforehand, so please let us know if you have special requirements when you book. Please note that Khmer cuisine features a lot of fish sauce as a natural salt (don’t worry, it’s not fishy), which is the most common issue we follow-up with guests about. Vegetarian: We’ll make sure you have something to eat at every stop, but you won’t be able to eat everything and you will often miss the highlight dish. This is because we visit small restaurants that specialize in one dish, and they don’t offer substitutions. If you decide to join, you’ll be eating the same dish minus the meat. Your options will expand if you’re able to eat fish sauce. This tour will be extremely limited for vegans. Fun fact: there’s no Khmer word for vegetarian, even saying “no-meat diet” would still include fish/oyster sauces and meat-based broths, so saying vegetarian in Khmer would actually require a long-winded explanation. The closest thing to it, and how we explain it to our vendors, is “temple-food” which is the diet Buddhist monks observe, built around as little suffering and negative karma as possible. Food allergies: This tour is adaptable to those who are gluten intolerant. Please let us know if you have any other allergies or restrictions.
