From Sarajevo: Mostar and Medugorije Day Tour

Our first stop is Konjic, a charming town located on the banks of the Neretva River. Known for its Old Stone Bridge, built in 1682, Konjic was once a key trading hub connecting Sarajevo with the Adriatic coast. The bridge was destroyed during World War II but beautifully reconstructed in 2009, restoring its Ottoman charm. Here you can enjoy traditional Bosnian coffee while admiring the stunning panorama of the river and its historic architecture — a perfect start to your Mostar and Medjugorje day trip. The tour then continues south to Medjugorje, one of the most spiritual and peaceful places in Europe. Since 1981, this small Herzegovinian village has become one of the world’s most visited Catholic pilgrimage sites, attracting millions of visitors each year. Many pilgrims describe Medjugorje as “a place where Heaven touches the Earth.” You’ll visit St. James’s Church, the spiritual heart of the town, where Mass is held in several languages daily. The tour also includes a visit to the bronze Statue of the Risen Christ and time for reflection and prayer. The highlight of the visit is Apparition Hill (Podbrdo) — the sacred place where the Virgin Mary is said to have first appeared. Along the rocky path, wooden crosses mark the stations of the Virgin’s messages of peace, and at the top stands the statue of Our Lady of Medjugorje. This peaceful site offers moments of quiet prayer and stunning views over the Herzegovinian landscape. After visiting Medjugorje, the Mostar and Medjugorje tour continues north to Mostar, the historical and cultural capital of Herzegovina. Nestled in the valley of the Neretva River, Mostar is a city of contrasts — East and West, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian influences, tradition and modern life. The main attraction is the Old Bridge (Stari Most), built in 1566 by the Ottoman architect Hayruddin. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Bosnia’s most iconic landmarks, symbolising unity and resilience. From the bridge, you’ll often see brave local divers jumping into the turquoise Neretva — a tradition that dates back centuries. You’ll also visit the Crooked Bridge, believed to be the prototype for the Old Bridge, and the Koski Mehmed-Pasha Mosque, where you can climb the minaret for the best panoramic view of the Old Town. Other highlights include the Old Bazaar with its cobbled streets and the Hamam Turkish Bath, one of the last surviving examples of Ottoman architecture in Herzegovina. After exploring, you’ll have free time to enjoy Mostar at your own pace — walk along the riverside, shop for souvenirs, or try local specialities like cevapi, burek, or Turkish coffee in one of the cosy cafés overlooking the bridge.
