The Experience

What your day looks like

Experience more than a cave! Imagine a world alive and imbued with sacred power divided into three domains: the starry arch of heaven; the stony middle world of earth made to flower and bear fruits; and, the dark waters of the underworld below, Xibalba. A short swim through the crystal blue water will lead you into this amazing realm. Then working your way through a tight entrance leads you in to the main water passage, were you get to enjoy amazing geological formations like sparkling stalactites, stalagmites, and flow stones. This hidden chamber promises to reveal ancient secrets and geological processes that have helped to shape the Mayan Underworld known as Xibalba. We are referring to back in time when our ancestors believed that only priests could have ventured in and communicate with their Gods or ancestors through ritual and ceremonies. The Mayas believed their gods had dual faces, they could be good or bad so they would bring offerings. These offerings would consist of food, blood, or human sacrifices for rain, fertility, hunting and agricultural. Xibalba was the fearful world beneath the face of the Earth, the parallel unseen other world into which kings and shamans could enter in ecstatic trance and pleased their Gods for their benefits.

A MUST do trip while in Belize. This was one of our favourite trips. Our guide was great, and the caves were amazing - don't go if you don't like getting wet or climbing through small spaces! We booked online through the website and a confirmation come through the same day. Our guide picked us up from Black Rock Lodge with no fuss (it is quite out of the way), and dropped us off. Wonderful trip.
