Barbados Wildlife Reserve: Cherry Tree Hill: Cherry Tree Hill is eight hundred and fifty (850) ft above sea level and is a part of the St. Nicholas Abbey plantation. Actually due to the size of the St. Nicholas Abbey property, Cherry Tree Hill actually borders, St.Peter and St. Andrew. Many years ago, the drive on either side to get to it was flanked by cherry trees, thus the reason for its name; however these were replaced with mahogany trees which now line the road. The trees were planted in celebration of the signing of The Treaty of Paris in 1763 Morgan Lewis: The Morgan Lewis Sugar Mill was built in 1727 it is one of the many Barbadian windmills once used to produce sugar, and one of the two last functioning sugar windmills in the world. The Morgan Lewis Mill ceased grinding sugarcane for commercial purposes in 1947 and was subsequently given to the Barbados National Trust. Bathsheba: Bathsheba is located on the Eastern coastline of Barbados. It is said that this area was named after the wife of King David whose name was “Bathsheba”. Legend has it that she bathed in milk to keep her skin beautiful and soft, and the rolling surf waters of Bathsheba’s “Soup Bowl” resembled Bathsheba’s bath. The area is popular with surfers. It is a popular area for locals and visitors alike and is dotted with several seaside cottages. Garrison: The Main Guard is the central point of the Garrisons and looks out on what was once the Parade Ground and now the race track. This structure was erected in 1804 and was used among other things as a court-martial with the prisoners being housed in a guardhouse which is now the Barbados Museum. The coat of arms is the George the III Coat of Arms. It is made of Coad Stone, which is not a stone but a ceramic made to resemble stone. The Formula was invented by Mrs. Elanor Coade in 1779 and its foremost property is its durability. The Coat of arms is dated 1803 and faces directly into the prevailing weather and has withstood 3 major hurricanes. Carlisle Bay: Carlisle Bay is named after the Earl of Carlisle who stole Barbados away from Sir William Courteen in the Great Barbados Robbery. Today Carlisle Bay has the whitest sand in Barbados & the most brilliant turquoise sea. The Carlisle Bay Marine Park has 6 shipwrecks in close proximity. The great diversity of brilliantly colored marine life includes turtles, starfish, sand dollars, rays, and more. Tranquility Cruises: Join us aboard Tranquility Cruises.
