Eat Like A Local In Nassau: Private Conching Experience On Rose Island
What your day looks like
Host Bio: Byron, a born and raised Bahamian, is a true modern-day seaman with his signature red beard and adventurous spirit. A John Watling's pirate at heart, he has a deep love for the sea, whether it's spearing fish, free diving for lobster and conch, or crafting the perfect conch salad right on the beach. Byron is a natural storyteller, and along with his captain Ace, they enjoy sharing the rich history of the Bahamas, Rose Island, and Exuma with passion and authenticity. Their infectious energy and deep-rooted knowledge make every experience an unforgettable journey into Bahamian culture and seafaring traditions. CONCHING EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: Embark on the ultimate half-day (4-hour) private conch and seafood adventure, a truly authentic Bahamian experience that takes you from ocean to table. Step aboard a private 42’ powerboat and cruise to the stunning shores of Rose Island, where you’ll witness the Bahamian way of life up close. If you're on Paradise Island, meet at the dock by Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville. Your journey begins with a tour of Nassau from the water. Then you will get a thrilling demonstration by an expert free diver, who will dive to catch conch straight from the sea. Depending on the season, you may also watch as they spear a lobster (Aug 1 - Apr 1) or a grouper (Mar 1 - Nov 30). Once the fresh catch is secured, you’ll pull up onto a stunning Caribbean beach, where your guide will teach you how to clean and prepare conch the traditional way. You will receive a combination of some hands-on techniques and demonstrations. Learn the secrets to making the freshest Bahamian conch salad, a local delicacy. You'll learn to prepare it two ways - combining conch with citrus, tomatoes, onions, and spices for the most vibrant traditional ceviche you’ll ever taste, and with seasonal fruit for a tropical version of the ceviche. Relax under a shaded tent and savor your handcrafted conch salad along with locally brewed Sands Bahamian beers. You will also have fresh fruit and snacks during the journey. For those craving a heartier meal, head to Footprints restaurant, a short walk away, for conch fritters, fish fingers, classic cheeseburgers, and cocktails, available for purchase.
