Private Full Day Großglockner & High Alpine Road Tour
What your day looks like
Take the ‘dream road of the Alps’ through ever-changing scenery up to 2500 meters/12,758 feet! Experience the breathtaking view surrounded by majestic peaks, each with its magic. Being a major and important trade route over the Eastern Alps for centuries, the construction of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road (1928 - 1935) acquired a new dimension of this magnificent mountain range! Following the ancient trails, the Großglockner alpine road has yielded many interesting findings over the years: Pre-Celtic bronze knives, Celtic gold jewelry, and even a Roman Hercules statue witnessed the crossing of the Hochtor for more than 4000 years! From the Franz Joseph point (2.369 meters) you will be viewing Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner with its 3.798 meters also one of the highest peaks in the Alps. You may spend some time at the various local museums with their great exhibitions, watch the wildlife of birds of prey, chamois and marmots or walk down to the Pasterze Glacier (good shoes & sure footedness required!) being captured by the eternal ice and the elemental force of nature – a one of a kind experience!
