The Experience

What your day looks like

Eisenstadt This prolific composer Joseph Haydn lived and worked in Eisenstadt, and following his death in Vienna in 1809, his remains were brought back here for burial. His influence can still be felt throughout the city, particularly at the elegant Esterhazy Palace. The beautiful baroque palace provides visitors with a fascinating view of the resplendent lifestyle at the royal court. The centerpiece of the palace is the Haydnsaal, which takes its name from the composer and is hailed as one of the most beautiful concert halls in the world today. Haydn’s tomb lies in the chapel attached to the church known as the Bergkirche, which in addition to the stunning ceiling fresco of “The Ascension of Christ", painted in 1722, houses the famous organ that Haydn, then in later years, his pupil Beethoven, played when premiering various works. Lake Neusiedl Covering 315 km2, Lake Neusiedl is the largest lake in Central Europe that doesn’t feed into the ocean. With a maximum depth of only 1.5 meters, the lake waters warm quickly in the summer, making it a godsend for beach-starved Austrians who flock to Neusiedl for boating and windsurfing. While the eastern shore offers the best beaches, the thick reeds on the western shore are home to nearly 300 species of bird, attracting birdwatchers from around the country. The reeds are encircled by a flat cycling track, making them a destination for pedal-heads as well. It’s also worth stopping in one of the lake towns to sample the local wines produced in the surrounding vineyards. *Optional third party activities such as tours or attraction fees are not included in the price. We can’t guarantee that every attraction will be open for your trip, so we recommend checking the opening hours in advance. *Please note that this experience includes a private driver but it does not include a guide and is not a guided tour.
