The journey, in full
Make your way to Wein & Co, a centrally located wine house in Vienna’s historic center. On arrival, you’ll be greeted by your certified sommelier and shown to a reserved table in the tasting area. After a short welcome and overview of the evening, you can settle in and get comfortable. The experience begins with a glass of chilled Austrian Sekt. As you enjoy your first sip, your sommelier introduces Austria’s main wine regions, grape varieties, and styles in clear, easy-to-follow language. No prior wine knowledge is needed, and questions are always welcome. Next, you move through a guided tasting of six premium Austrian wines, poured in a natural order from lighter to fuller styles. Typical selections include crisp Grüner Veltliner, aromatic Riesling, and elegant reds from regions such as Burgenland. For each wine, your sommelier explains the region, producer, and flavor profile, and shares simple tasting tips so you can compare and enjoy each glass with confidence. While you taste, a generous family-style menu is served to the table. Dishes usually include a bread basket with olive oil and salted butter, the house “Piatto Grande,” artisan cheeses, wild broccoli, Croque to Share, beef tartare, and seasonal chef specials such as handmade pasta. The focus is on how the food and wine work together, creating a relaxed, dinner-style experience rather than just a snack plate. Towards the end of the evening, your sommelier leads you down to the Raritätenkeller, Wein & Co’s private rarity cellar. Here you’ll see shelves of older vintages and special bottles while hearing stories about Austria’s wine history and how fine wines are aged and stored. This section involves a short walk and a few steps. You return to the main bar area for a final chance to ask questions, take photos, or note down favorite wines. Your sommelier can suggest bottles and styles to look for during the rest of your time in Europe. The experience then concludes, and you are free to stay on at Wein & Co or make your way back to your hotel or ship.
