Detailed Itinerary

The journey, in full

Be picked up in Melbourne at 7 am by your expert host in a luxury vehicle with bottled water, local treats, and in-car wi-fi. Spend the morning’s drive getting acquainted with your host and the various options for making the most of your day in Wilson’s Promontory National Park. Stop on the doorstep of Wilsons Promontory, beautiful private property for a hosted morning tea with the owners featuring seasonal produce directly from their kitchen garden. Here we’ll also collect our carefully prepared and extremely delicious picnic lunches so be sure to advise us of any dietary requirements in advance. From here it’s a short easy drive onto Wilson’s Promontory the southernmost point of mainland Australia and one of its most spectacular national parks. Still something of a local’s secret, the park is teeming with native wildlife, picturesque sand dunes, squeaky white sand beaches, mountains, rainforests, and coastal trails. Naturally, there’s just too much of it to see in a single day but your expert host will help you navigate the options to best suit your interests, fitness, and the conditions on the day. We often start with a short walk at Big Drift, a vast rolling sand dune on the Western Coast of the Promontory. The Mt. Oberon Summit Walk is a regular feature and we can basically guarantee plenty of native wildlife on the Wildlife Trail. Keep an eye out for kangaroos, emus, wombats, and echidnas throughout the day of the Prom. won’t disappoint. This is also a paradise for bird lovers, with egrets, plovers and oystercatchers, herons, lapwings, and even little penguins all common. A visit to the impossibly white quartz sand of Squeaky Beach is a must and the coastal trails from here are a wonderful inclusion with varying lengths and options to suit your fitness. Enjoy healthy snacks and a delicious picnic lunch in the wilderness with a freshly brewed pot of billy tea or french press coffee to finish up. An exciting new addition to the area is a 2.5 hours cruise by custom-built amphibious boat – an excellent optional inclusion for the day. Witness iconic South Point and cruise into the waters of the Bass Strait and Victoria’s first marine national park. Discover a rugged and raw coast like no other as you explore The Glennies, Anderson Islets, and Anser Island, and marvel at the prehistoric boulders of Mount Oberon from the sea. Begin your return journey back to Melbourne around 4 pm. After a full day of exploring this pristine wilderness, this three-hour road journey is a perfect chance to reflect on your experience and swap stories with your friendly host.
