The Experience

What your day looks like

The Koala and River Cruise is a memorable one-way journey on the Brisbane River to the oldest and largest Koala Sanctuary in the world. You’ll board the MV Mirimar II in Brisbane’s Southbank district, at the Cultural Centre Pontoon located on the boardwalk in front of the Queensland State Library. Boarding commences at 8:30 am with a 9:00 am departure, and check-in is required 15 minutes before departure. As you leave the city behind, enjoy a relaxing cruise through Brisbane’s most historic landscapes, iconic attractions, historical home sites, and interesting wildlife habitats while listening to an entertaining and informative commentary. Glide along Brisbane’s waterfront from the bustle of the city’s skyscrapers to leafy suburbs with waterside mansions. Indulge in homemade morning teas, meals, and snacks (own expense) from our on-board café as you take in the views. Food and drinks are available for purchase on this trip. If you change your mind and would like to cruise back to the city, please see our crew on the boat to check availability and cost. Arriving at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary at 10:15 am, explore the world’s largest Koala sanctuary, home to more than 130 koalas. Discover the Platypus House for a chance to see the shy platypus, and enjoy the Flight Raptor Show where owls, kites, and sea eagles soar above you. Feed kangaroos and wallabies in the 5-acre (2-hectare) reserve, and watch the entertaining sheepdog show as skilled dogs respond to their master’s whistles, calls, and hand signals. For a Koala Moment (Touch a Koala), the best time to book is from 10:15 am upon arrival. If sessions are booked out online, limited availability may remain at the Experience Hut inside the sanctuary. As bookings fill quickly, we highly recommend reserving online in advance. All animal encounters are managed directly by Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and cannot be changed or influenced by our crew.
