The Koala and River Cruise is a memorable return journey on the Brisbane River to the oldest and largest Koala Sanctuary in the world. You’ll board the MV Mirimar II in Brisbane’s Southbank district, at the Cultural Centre Pontoon located on the boardwalk in front of the Queensland State Library. Boarding commences at 8:30 am and departs at 9:00 am, with check-in required 15 minutes before departure. As you leave the city behind, enjoy a relaxing cruise through Brisbane’s historic landscapes, iconic attractions, historical home sites, and diverse wildlife habitats while listening to an entertaining and informative commentary. Glide from the bustle of the city’s skyscrapers to leafy suburbs with waterside mansions, and indulge in homemade morning teas, meals, and snacks (at own cost) from our on-board café. Food and drink are available for purchase on this trip. Arriving at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary at 10:15 am, you will have three hours to explore the world’s largest Koala Sanctuary, home to more than 130 koalas. Discover the Platypus House for a chance to see the shy platypus, and enjoy the popular Flight Raptor Show where owls, kites, and sea eagles soar above. Feed the kangaroos and wallabies in the 5-acre (2-hectare) reserve, and watch the impressive sheepdog show as skilled dogs respond to their master’s whistles, calls, and hand signals. After exploring, relax on the return journey aboard our ultra-modern cruise boat and enjoy a glass of Australian wine or beer (own expense). The return trip to the city departs Lone Pine Jetty at 1:30 pm sharp, arriving back at the Cultural Centre Pontoon at 2:45 pm. For a Koala Moment (Touch a Koala), the best time to book is between 10:15 am and 10:45 am while at the Sanctuary. If booked out online, limited availability may be found at the Experience Hut inside the Sanctuary on the day, but as encounters book quickly, we highly recommend booking online in advance. All animal encounters are managed directly through the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and cannot be changed or influenced by our crew.
