The journey, in full
Be picked up from your hotel at 9 am by your expert host in a luxury vehicle with bottled water, local treats, and in-car wi-fi. Take the short, scenic drive out of town to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and enjoy a little time to relax and get to know your host. Bonorong is a sanctuary, not a zoo, and proceeds help with endangered breeding programs. See young Tasmanian Devils fed by hand, and meet wombats, koalas, kangaroos, and dozens of other Aussie natives. Expect to learn loads about our unique fauna from the passionate keepers and your host. Stop for a quick stroll, morning tea (or lunch, depending on how we’re tracking) in one of Tasmania’s most historic regional towns. The quaint streets of New Norfolk are lined with old pubs, charming stores, and impressive colonial buildings. For an exceptional gourmet dining experience, the Agrarian Kitchen is one of the island's finest. Continue on to Mt. Field, Tasmania’s most diverse National Park. Get up close and personal with one of the planet's tallest trees, the Mountain Ash towering at nearly 100 meters. The park has 4 distinct levels of vegetation starting at rain forest to alpine and along the journey, your guide will give you a hands-on introduction to the diverse plant life, like the Fagus, Australia’s only cold climate winter deciduous tree. If you’ve opted for a picnic lunch, your host will arrange a meal of delicious Tasmanian fare and hot tea or coffee in a beautiful natural setting. Visit Russell Falls and a few other notable natural attractions, keeping a keen eye out for platypus in mountain streams or a wedge-tailed eagle soaring high on mountain thermals. It is not uncommon to see native wildlife on short walks in the national park including echidnas, wallabies, and pademelons. While the exact order of the day may change according to the season, conditions, and your preferences, your host will have you back safe and sound in Hobart by 5 pm.
