The Experience

What your day looks like

This is a very full day out, with an emphasis on a wide range of wines accompanied by superb food and hinterland scenery. We start our day around 8:45 a.m. and travel through Melbourne's bayside suburbs en route to the Mornington Peninsula, which is located to the southeast. The first stop for the day is the Yabby Lake Vineyard. Established in 1998, the vineyard produces consistently good wines from both estate and regionally grown grapes. These include Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Shiraz.  A short drive away is the Crittenden Estate Vineyard at Dromana. One of the first commercial vineyards on the Peninsula, their origins go back to 1982 so some of the oldest vines are producing exceptional quality fruit. After the tasting, continue through to the quirky Quealy Vineyard at Balnarring. With a focus on Italian-inspired wines, their approach is a little left of center and will leave an impression. A cheese platter will complement the tastings. Close by is the Merricks General Store where a relaxed a la carte lunch in rustic surroundings can be enjoyed. After lunch, finish the day at Ten Minutes by Tractor Vineyard at Main Ridge.

Detailed Itinerary

The journey, in full

Let's Go To The Peninsula We’ll pick you up at or close to your city hotel, otherwise, those staying outside of the city can meet us at the Melbourne Town Hall. Your friendly guide, a local expert, will meet you and introduce you to the day. The excitement then grows as we pass through the bayside suburbs of Melbourne, heading inland for our first stop of the day. Yabby Lake Vineyard Tasting Established in 1998 and with 120 acres under vine, their focus is very much on pinot noir, chardonnay, and pinot gris. For those looking for something bolder, their Heathcote Estate vineyard in Central Victoria produces a fuller-bodied and richer shiraz. Crittenden Estate Vineyard Tasting A short drive away is the Crittenden Estate Vineyard, one of the earlier planted vineyards on the Peninsula. They were established in 1982 by Gary Crittenden and are still in the family's hands today. While acknowledging the cool climate was suitable for high-quality chardonnay and pinot noir, Italian and Iberian Peninsula varieties were also pursued. Today, the experience for visitors is greatly enhanced with this wider choice. Quealy Vineyard Tasting Skirting the Westernport Bay side of the Peninsula, arrive at the Quealy Vineyard at Balnarring. Quirky and with a nod to Italian winemaking styles, it's a vineyard that leaves an impression. Merricks General Store Lunch Dating back to the early 1920s, this is one of the region's iconic establishments. From its early years as a post office, store,e, and meeting place for the local rural community, its heritage buildings have been lovingly restored to house a bistro, art gallery, cellar doo,r and produce store. Enjoy a main course a la carte lunch and a glass of wine, followed by tea and coffee. Ten Minutes by Tractor Vineyard Tasting Following lunch, travel up the hill to the imagineatively named Ten Minutes by Tractor Vineyard for the final tasting. Journey Home After such a great day on the Mornington Peninsula, there is just one thing for you to do - enjoy the ride back to Melbourne, savoring your precious memories which will last for years to come.
