Be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the Federation Square bike shop. Be fitted with a well-maintained, commuter bike and helmet designed for urban riding. Share a few points about your riding experience and interests with your Localising host to help make the experience personal. Choose a gritty neighborhood/city-centric adventure north of the river or head to Melbourne’s leafy southern ‘burbs for bayside culture and class or ride fast and get a taste of both. Ride the Yarra River bank, the city’s cultural divide for a little orientation and some insight into local indigenous culture. Roll past a few cultural icons like The MCG, The Arts Centre, or the Shrine of Remembrance. Visit a vibrant local neighborhood for some coffee and pastries at a local institution. Chat with the owner and hear a few stories about the area’s unique culture and history. Ride through the backstreets to see how locals live and admire a few unusual homes and buildings and some stunning street art. Enjoy a quick lunch at a neighborhood cafe or slow down over first-rate fine dining. Get to know your host better, discuss local culture, and how best to spend your time in Melbourne. Embrace the chaos of Melbourne’s exciting downtown area or enjoy the sunshine and palm trees on the waterfront. Meet Melburnians in galleries, boutiques, and studios. Your Local host will have you back at your hotel by 4 pm (start and finish times can be varied to suit your needs).
