The Experience

What your day looks like

The Hunter Valley Grains & Grapes Tour takes you on a delicious wine, cheese, and spirits tour with lunch just a few hours north of Sydney! What makes this tour the ultimate Hunter trip is that you have the option to also taste some local beer at a few stops, OR you can keep on the wines and add some chocolate too! The Grains & Grapes has everyone’s tastes covered! Aside from all the beautiful wines, tasty beers, and handcrafted produce, Dave works hard to take you behind the scenes of the production houses to meet the makers and get a true sense of the region. We’ll always include a tour of a vineyard, winery, or both on our tours. Dave’s also tries to only visit small family-run wineries so our guests get to meet and chat with locals and appreciate and understand what goes into what they are tasting. As we are visiting small producers, our tour vehicles are usually between 12 and 22 seats (including the driver). Dave loves the Hunter Valley, and we want to show you the BEST of the region with tours departing DAILY from Sydney, Newcastle, and the Hunter Valley.

Detailed Itinerary

The journey, in full

Your day begins with a relaxed pick-up from your Hunter Valley accommodation between 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM. You'll be greeted by your guide—your "Dave for the day"—and introduced to your small group for the tour ahead. The first stop is a local winery, where you’ll enjoy a guided tour of a vineyard, the wine production area, or both. This behind-the-scenes look offers a great introduction to the region’s winemaking process. After learning a little, it’s time to taste, with your first wine tasting session of the day. Next, it's time for a delicious lunch, usually at the second stop of the tour. Depending on the venue, you'll enjoy shared plates or wood-fired pizzas and salads—great for sparking conversation. Your meal includes a drink of your choice: wine, beer, or a soft drink. In the afternoon, you’ll visit a family-run distillery to sample locally crafted gin, vodka, and liqueurs. It’s a perfect way to recharge after lunch and experience another side of the Hunter’s artisan producers. Afterwards, enjoy your second official wine tasting of the day, this time paired with a selection of local cheeses. The staff will guide you through which wines best match each cheese for a perfectly balanced tasting experience. To finish, you’ll have a choice: indulge in a wine and chocolate pairing, or opt for a paddle of locally brewed craft beers. Either way, it’s a sweet (or hoppy) end to a flavour-packed day. With the tastings complete and the bus full of tasty treats you’ve picked up along the way, your group will head back to your accommodation. Expect some laughs, relaxed tunes—or maybe a snooze—as the day winds down.
