Your Localing host will collect you from your Hobart hotel at 8 am for a scenic drive south to the sleepy coastal village of Kettering. From here, board the vehicle ferry and cross the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, keeping an eye out for dolphins or seabirds as Bruny comes into view. Once on the island, take your time. You might begin with a wedge of award-winning cheese before winding your way between farm gates and local favourites. Sample freshly shucked oysters, craft beer and the island’s famously fragrant leatherwood honey. Enjoy a relaxed café lunch or take a progressive approach, tasting the best of the island as you go. Stop at the Neck Lookout for sweeping views across Bruny’s narrow isthmus, then continue to Adventure Bay to hear tales of early explorers and walk along the white sand beach. The afternoon might take you further south to Cloudy Bay or Cape Bruny Lighthouse for wild coastal views and a chance to spot native wildlife in the forest and along the shoreline. The day can also be tailored to include something special – like a scenic flight over the island, or a wilderness cruise beneath Bruny’s towering cliffs. Just let us know what you’re curious about. Return to Hobart via ferry and arrive back to your accommodation by 5 pm in time to settle in for the evening – or track down that local bottle of pinot you’ve been thinking about since lunch.
