Excursion through the Humahuaca Gorge with Hornocal
What your day looks like
We will embark on a journey to the hill of the 14 colors, also known as the Serranías del Hornocal. This excursion will allow us to appreciate the most impressive colors of Northern Argentina, its culture, its unique towns, and its people. We will depart from the city of Salta, taking National Route N°9 and then entering the municipality of General Güemes, by National Route 34. Later we will enter the province of Jujuy, where we will have the opportunity to visit the great Quebrada de Humahuaca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its impressive landscapes and picturesque towns such as Volcán, Purmamarca where we will find the majestic Cerro de los 7 Colores; Tilcara; Humahuaca, the largest town in the gorge; Uquía, a small town where you will find the church of San Francisco de Paula, dating from the 17th century, where you will find the old paintings of the Arquebuceros Angels, from Cuzco-Peru, painted during the time of colonization; Huacalera, where we will step on the imaginary cut of the Tropic of Capricorn and finally, La Paleta del Pintor in Maimará. Once you arrive in Uquía you will transfer to a 4x4 vehicle where you will begin the road to Hornocal to enjoy those magnificent panoramic views. On the way back you will make a 20-minute stop in Humahuaca. It is recommended to bring a lunch or something light for lunch since there is no time to stop at a restaurant in Humahuaca.
