Estancia Cristina Classic Tour
What your day looks like
Our Estancia Cristina Tour Classic is the best way to discover rural Argentinian Patagonia. We’ll sail through icebergs as we make our way to the Cristina ranch, where we’ll spend the rest of the day learning about local history and tradition. You’ll get to visit the Museo Costumbrista and the most historical areas of the ranch in this exploration of rural Argentina.
The experience, in brief
- Sail the Lago Argentino on board a modern boat
- Learn about daily life at Estancia Cristina
- Go explore the surroundings of the Ranch
The journey, in full
We will pick you up at your hotel in El Calafate to start the tour, travelling around 45 km along a route through the countryside. On the way, we can appreciate picturesque wooden houses. Once we reach the port of Punta Bandera, on Lake Argentino, we will board a modern and comfortable boat that leaves at 8.15 am. Sailing through towering icebergs we head to the northern arm of Lake Argentino, where we can see the western front of the Spegazzini Glacier, with its amazing 40 m tall walls, and a beautiful scenery as a backdrop. Continue sailing through the Cristina Canal up to the Estancia, where we arrive around 11:30 am. After disembarking at Estancia Cristina, an assigned guide will lead a hike of medium difficulty through the Estancia Valley. We will walk over mixed terrain covered by shrubs and grasses, and then gradually climb to the first lookout point featuring sweeping views of the valley from Lake Argentino to Lake Pearson. We will continue the hike in constant ascent flanked by forests of Nires until we arrive at the Cascade of the Dogs. Enjoy free time for lunch and continue touring the place, for instance, the Folkloric Museum, located in what used to be an old shearing shed, to know more about the Estancia's history. Then we start a small and pleasant walk of about 30 minutes to visit the Caterina River and Chapel and then tour the historic town of Estancia. Around 05.30 PM we will get back to the boat to begin the return trip to Puerto Punta Bandera. After landing, at approximately 07 pm, we will take you back to your hotel
