The journey, in full
After hotel pickup, we'll travel on the legendary Route 40 along Lake Argentino, crossing the Santa Cruz River. Our guide will share Darwin and Fitz Roy's experiences as they navigated this river. We'll then proceed to the La Leona River, traveling through its canyon for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, reaching the historic Paso La Leona roadside hotel (almost a Route 40 museum). Here, you can enjoy coffee with homemade cakes. Continuing along Lake Viedma with the Andes as a backdrop (including Fitz Roy and Torre peaks), we'll stop at the Viedma Glacier viewpoint before reaching El Chaltén after a 3-hour, 220 km journey. Upon arrival, our trekking guide will advise on self-guided hikes leading to the most beautiful viewpoints of Fitz Roy or Cerro Torre. They'll provide maps of the trails. Lunch can be enjoyed with a packed meal on the go or at a restaurant, depending on weather conditions, decided by the guide. Between 3 pm and 6 pm, depending on the season, we'll reunite with the group to start the journey back to El Calafate.
