Food Tour Durrës: The Appetizing Side of Albania!

Taste Traditional Albanian Food in Durrës! Welcome to the tour that combines Durrës’s history, architecture, and traditional Albanian food. We recommend that participants do not go overboard with breakfast at the hotel so that you are ready to fully enjoy the Albanian recipes and specialties we will offer. The tour starts at the Sports Palace “Ramazan Njala” at 9:00 am. From there, we'll visit the farmer's market, where you can see the local fruits, vegetables, and Mediterranean products. The next stop is a Byrek shop, where you'll have the chance to taste the traditional Albanian Byrek, a savory pie usually filled with cottage cheese or meat. To experience it like a local, try it with a yogurt-based drink called “dhallë.” Walking along the city’s main boulevard, we’ll admire the Italian architecture and see the numerous shops and bars that opened after the communist period. After this stroll, take some time to relax at a bar with traditional Turkish coffee. In Albania, coffee time is a social ritual—a chance to chat, laugh, and, of course, share some gossip. Refreshed from the coffee break, we’ll visit the Roman Amphitheater, built by Emperor Trajan at the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The amphitheater could accommodate 20,000 people and is the largest in the Balkan region. Finally, we’ll arrive at the promenade of Durrës, known locally as “Vollga.” Here, it’s time for lunch, and we’ll enjoy a traditional Albanian meal at a local restaurant.
